Boasting 25 years of experience in wealth and asset management, King has worked across numerous functions. She has a record of achievement in executive leadership, financial markets, alternative investments, client engagement and growth, digital and data lineage, and also talent cultivation.

Praising the global financial services provider, King said: “Investec has great people with a passion for helping clients achieve success. The UK private client platform is highly respected and we will look to build on this foundation by harnessing our entrepreneurial spirit to problem solve for current and future clients in this fast changing world.”

King is a strong advocate for diversity and gender parity, championed through her role in founding GreenInk – an investment club supporting female-led sustainability start-ups.

The former LSE law-graduate is also a senior associate at the University of Cambridge’s Lucy Cavendish College, which is renowned for the admission of students from non-traditional and under-represented backgrounds.

Expressing a similar commitment to addressing global challenges, Lucy Cavendish seeks to “have a positive impact on our societies” through its inclusive nature.

Ciaran Whelan, chief executive of Investec Wealth and Investment, commented: “Energy, experience and commercial acumen will be important factors in Investec’s future success. In Barbara-Ann we have recruited someone who possesses all three and I look forward to working closely with her as our private client business pursues twin objectives of delivering outstanding client experience and business growth.”

Whelan recently took over from Jonathan Wragg as CEO at Investec Wealth and Investment, who led the firm for almost a decade.

Barbara-Ann will also join the Investec Wealth & Investment Board, subject to regulatory approval.
