Barclays Wealth and Investment Management (W&IM) has expanded its presence across the North region with a number of new hires in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds.
The company has appointed Liam Townson as a private banker in Manchester from law firm Slaughter & May. He will work alongside Barclays W&IM director James Bailey and fellow ex-lawyer Alison Probert.

By GlobalDataAlso, Simon Davies will join as new wealth advisor for the Manchester office from RBS at the end of this month. He will be responsible for offering wealth advisory services across the whole North West region.
Within the Barclays offices, Kenneth O’Donnell will join Manchester office as private banker from Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in Glasgow, while Annie Snowden, who has been with Barclays for eight years advising on mortgages, will join a specialist mortgage adviser for HNW clients.
Additionally, Barclays has hired Amy Barlow and Matt Latham as private bankers for the Liverpool office.
Barlow will be responsible for a portfolio of clients that will include both individuals and trusts. He joined Barclays from Wealth at Work. Prior to this, he worked with Coutts for five years.
In Leeds, Barclays W&IM has named Louise Chesters as a private banker. Chesters, who will join Barclays later this month, previously worked with Brewin Dolphin, where he spent 12 years as an investment manager in Newcastle and then London. He also worked at Dart Capital in London as a senior investment manager.
Furthermore, Mike Middleton will join Barclays as a wealth advisor later this month from Sanlam.
In his new role, Middleton will support clients across the whole North East region, working out of Barclays’ Leeds and Newcastle offices. His hire demonstrates Barclays’ commitment to its wealth advisory offering in the North region.
The expansion follows increasing demand from clients for local wealth management services, as the number of HNWIs increases across the North region.
According to Barclays’ latest Prosperity Map, currently there are 85,000 millionaires across the North region, up from 61,000 in 2010.
