Taiwan-based Taishin International Bank has opened a new branch in Singapore in a bid to expand its presence in the region.

Taishin Bank president Chung Lung-yu told Focus Taiwan News that the new branch will mainly focus on corporate banking and wealth management for Singapore clients.

Lung-yu added that the branch will look at opportunities in Singapore including syndication loans that are aimed not only at Taiwanese investors in the city but also other enterprises from the region and multinational companies.

Additionally, the bank is planning to seek regulatory approval to upgrade its representative office in Ho Chi Minh City into a branch in 2015.

Furthermore, the bank is also planning to branch in Brisbane, Australia next year.

In order to expand its Japanese presence, the bank intends to submit an application in July for the Tokyo branch.
