Standard Chartered has established SC GPT, a generative AI (GenAI) platform that aims to improve operations, increase productivity, and personalise client experiences.

The technology, which is currently available in 41 markets, marks a critical milestone in the bank’s AI-driven transformation.

SC GPT aims to empower more than 70,000 people worldwide by optimising procedures, boosting sales and marketing tactics, automating software development, and strengthening risk management. The solution was created with a heavy emphasis on ethical AI, assuring responsible implementation throughout the organisation.

Mohammed Rahim, Group Chief Data Officer at Standard Chartered stated: “SC GPT reflects our people-focused approach to AI and commitment to innovation with responsibility. The tool has been developed with strong governance and ethical AI principles are at its core. As we scale GenAI across our business, we remain committed to responsible AI adoption, guided by our responsible AI framework to mitigate potential biases and promote fairness.”

Moreover, a customised version of SC GPT is also in development, allowing the bank to leverage internal data for tailored problem-solving. Local teams will be able to use the tool to create market-specific solutions, with applications in content creation for digital marketing, translation, and customer advisory services.

Bill Winters, Group Chief Executive at Standard Chartered added: “Effective adoption of GenAI is an operational imperative for all banks. We have a distinctive and increasingly differentiated strategy – we believe the potential for GenAI to help us win in so many areas across Cross-border and Affluent banking will be game changing. By harnessing GenAI responsibly, we are driving new efficiencies, transforming service delivery and reinforcing our leadership in digital banking. This is just the beginning of how we will continue to innovate and create long-term value for our clients, colleagues, and communities.”
