Standard Chartered Private Bank has named
Sandeep Das as managing director and head of its private banking
operation in India.

Mumbai-based Das will be responsible for
driving firm’s private banking strategy and growth in India.

He will report to Stephen Evans, head of the
bank’s private banking business for EMEA, India and the Americas as
well as to Sanjeeb Chaudhuri, Standard Chartered’s regional head
for South Asia and its group chief marketing officer for
consumer banking.

Das joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1991 and
among his key roles was general manager for premium and consumer
banking in India. There he focused on developing bank’s affluent
and emerging affluent customer segments.

The appointment of Das to drive Standard
Chartered’s private banking strategy and growth in India follows

recent report by research
firm Crisil and Kotak Wealth Management
highlighting the
potential for wealth management businesses in the
country
.

The report said the number of
India’s ultra high net worth (UHNW) households is set to more than
triple by 2016.

The net worth of India’s ultra HNW households
is expected to increase by more than five times over the next five
years.
