The curriculum review exercise is a collaborative effort between WMI, the Private Banking Industry Group (PBIG), as well as representatives from the fund management and trust & estate planning industries.

WMI was established in 2003 with the support of Singapore investment firm Temasek Holdings and the Government of Singapore Investment Corp. It was an industry-led initiative aimed at developing the talent to manage the growing wealth in the region.

WMI chairman and group chief investment officer of GIC, Ng Kok Song, will chair the WMI Curriculum and FICS Review Advisory Committee, the institute revealed. Assisting Ng on the Committee will be WMI directors, Aaron Low and Cynthia Teong.

In its press statement, the institute said that the Committee will have three main objectives:

  • Conduct a strategic review and update of the current and future training needs of the wealth management industry
  • Review and update the curriculum of all WMI training programs so that it addresses the needs of the wealth management industry
  • Provide strategic advice for the review of FICS standards in relation to WMI programs

Launched in 2005, FICS was introduced by the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) as a set of competency standards that provides a practice-oriented approach and a clear roadmap for people working in the financial sector to attain the competencies they need to do their jobs.

"As a pioneering Lead Provider of FICS programs, WMI is dedicated to providing top-notch training that empowers wealth managers to meet their clients’ evolving demands. The WMI Curriculum and FICS Review Advisory Committee will make our professional education and training programmes even more current and take them to a higher level," said Ng.
