The SEC and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia (SECC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in providing assistance to ensure compliance with respective laws and developing capital markets of the two countries.
The MoU, signed by SEC Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak and SECC Director General Ming Bankosal, aims at facilitating the exchange of information for the purpose of law enforcement, elevating capability and quality of capital market personnel, and enhancing bilateral cooperation to promote business growth and opportunities which in turn generating mutual benefits to both countries’ capital market and economic development.
At the Ministry of Economic and Finance, Phnom Penh, the MoU signing ceremony was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Minister of Economy and Finance and SECC Chairman, H.E. Touchayoot Pakdi, the Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia, and executives from the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Association of Thai Securities Companies, the Investment Banking Club, the Association of Investment Management Companies (AIMC), as well as high-ranking officials and executives from government and private sectors of Cambodia.
Vorapol Socatiyanurak, secretary-general, SEC, said: "Cambodia and Thailand are neighboring countries with cultural similarity. Both nations benefit from high volume of cross-border trades in goods and services. As Cambodia continues to grow rapidly, Cambodian capital market will definitely soon become an engine of growth for the Kingdom. The MoU marks a significant milestone for closer capital market cooperation that will create greater business opportunities as well as sustainable growth and prosperity of the region."
Ming Bankosal, director general, SECC, said: "We envisage that to realize our regional vision of ASEAN Capital Market Linkage, we will make our efforts to promote regional capital market co-operation and infrastructure development. MOU signed today is a step forward in our regional co-operation and integration and SEC-Cambodia looks forward to a long and fruitful partnership with SEC-Thailand in the years to come. We believe that this MOU signing will provide another window for the two regulatory authorities to promote even more formally in greater co-operation and information sharing, and it will create a formal framework for consultation and exchange information amongst two securities market regulators in the region."
