Schroder Real Estate, the real estate business of British fund manager Schroders, has named John Chantrell as its new head of Asian real estate.

In the newly created role, Chantrell will oversee real estate strategy and investments across the Asia Pacific region and will also be responsible for developing the business.

He will be based in Hong Kong and will report to Schroders global head of real estate Duncan Owen.

Chantrell has an experience of three decades in property, working with investors across several commercial real estate markets in the region such as Tokyo, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and mainland China.

He has also been an active investor in Australia, where he managed over AUD$8bn in transactions.

His previous roles include senior positions at Advance Funds Management, Colonial First State Global Asset Management and Novion Property Group.

“Following the successful evolution of the real estate business across the UK and continental European markets, as well as the growth of our Global Real Estate Securities capability, expansion into Asia is a natural next step. Existing clients and strategic relationships are looking to expand into Asian real estate and we see a growing number of potential clients seeking investment opportunities in the region,” Owen said.
