Santander Asset Management has hired former Schroders manager David Scammell as senior sovereign bond fund manager for its European fixed income team.

In his new role, Scammell will be responsible for managing the £360 million Santander Asset Management Government Bond fund.

Scammell will also be responsible for working with the team across fund range on euro and sterling interest rates. He will report to Azim Meghji, head of fixed income.

Prior to joining Santander AM, Scammell spent eight years at Schroders, serving as head of UK and European interest rate strategies before leaving in January 2013.

Adam Cordery, head of European fixed income at Santander AM, said: "We are delighted that Scammell has joined us, and he will be a crucial addition to Santander AM’s European fixed income team.

"He has proven experience, has delivered excellent results and will play a key role in building our company’s profile and reputation."
