Rothschild & Co has bolstered its private capital division with the appointment of Nicolas Lanel, a seasoned investment banker with over 30 years of experience.

Lanel will play a key role in developing the firm’s GP Solutions business across Europe, focusing on the origination and execution of GP-led transactions, specifically continuation vehicles.

He is recognised in the secondary advisory market, having previously established and led European secondary franchises at UBS and Evercore. Under his leadership, both firms achieved global prominence in GP-led transactions.

Moreover, Lanel later founded Flow Advisors, a specialist advisory firm. His career began with Paribas in Toronto, followed by a decade as an M&A adviser with Deutsche Bank in London and New York.

Chris Hawley, global head of private capital at Rothschild & Co, highlighted: “The onboarding of Nicolas Lanel is part of Rothschild & Co’s continued development of our GP Solutions team which has quickly risen to prominence in Europe, having raised in excess of €3.5bn across 13 transactions in 2023 and 2024.”

Lanel after emphasised the growing importance of continuation funds as an exit strategy for private equity assets.

He added: “The successful execution of these transactions requires an understanding of GP-led structures, combined with the ability to articulate a compelling equity story on the underlying assets.”

“Given Rothschild & Co’s unmatched depth of relationships with the PE sponsor community, its widely recognised sector expertise, its extensive access to alternative pools of capital and its expanding presence in the secondary advisory space, I am  convinced that the firm offers the best platform to capitalise on these trends.”

His appointment underscores Rothschild & Co’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the GP-led market as demand for innovative private capital solutions continues to rise.
