France HNWI Asset Allocation: France is the fifth largest economy in the world and second largest in Europe, with a GDP of US$2.6 trillion in 2010. As of 2011, there were about 555,000 HNWIs in France, with a combined wealth of US$2.0 trillion.
In 2011, real estate is the largest asset class for HNWIs in France, accounting for 24% of total HNWI assets, followed by fixed income (22%), business interests (20%), equities (19.8%) and alternatives (6.5%). Driven by a strong commodities market, the commodity holdings of French HNWIs increased significantly over the review period, from 0.8% of total HNWI assets in 2007 to 1.7% in 2011.
