Swiss private bank Notenstein La Roche has appointed Walter Ernst to a newly created role of head of western Europe business.

Ernst previously worked at St Galler Kantonalbank (SGKB), where he spent three years. He served as the cantonal bank’s head of Germany for the last two years.

He also had a stint at Vadian Bank, which was acquired by SGKB three years ago.

The latest appointment comes soon after the bank’s appointment of Patrick Furer as its new CEO. Furer, previously the bank’s CFO/COO, replaced Adrian Kunzi.

The move also follows Notenstein La Roche’s sale of a CHF2bn non-strategic Eastern European asset management portfolio to Swiss asset manager Vontobel. The sale was part of the bank’s plan to focus more on its home market and selected international market.
