Northern Trust has named Leon Stavrou as the new head of its business in Australia and New Zealand, effective 1 October 2021.
Stavrou, who has been with Northern Trust for the last 11 years, was most recently a global services executive in charge of the firm’s asset servicing operations across Australia.
He was also responsible for ensuring the provision and development of Northern Trust’s tailored range of asset servicing solutions to clients across the Asia Pacific.
In his new role, Stavrou will oversee the overall strategic direction for Northern Trust’s business providing solutions to its corporate and institutional clients across the region.
He replaces Angelo Calvitto, who was recently appointed by the firm as head of Northern Trust in Asia Pacific. Stavrou will now report to Calvitto.
Calvitto said: “Leon is a proven and trusted leader and we are pleased to appoint him to lead our business in the region.
“His experience working with sophisticated institutional clients with unique requirements will support us as we continue our business momentum and bring innovative solutions for our clients across Australia and New Zealand.”
Before joining Northern Trust, Stavrou held managerial roles at National Australia Bank Asset Servicing.
Northern Trust offers a range of customised asset servicing, asset management, and capital markets solutions to its institutional and investment manager clients in Australia and New Zealand.
The firm has over 200 employees across its Sydney and Melbourne offices.
In July this year, Northern Trust launched a machine learning-based document capture capability as the foundation of a multi-year investment to digitise alternative asset servicing.
