Muzinich & Co, a credit focused investment manager founded in New York, has opened a new office in Dublin, Ireland.

The firm has hired Howard Mahon to head the new operation as the director of pan-Europe private debt.

In the newly created position, Mahon will be responsible for enhancing the private debt capabilities of the company and build a team dedicated to the Irish market.

Mahon is joining Muzinich & Co from AIB, where he served as an associate director in the specialised finance arm. Previously, he also had a stint at the corporate finance unit of Deloitte & Touche.

“Private debt is a relatively new but growing segment of the Irish investment market. The aim of the asset class is to seek to provide growth capital to Irish SMEs and corporates in the form of senior, unitranche and mezzanine debt, potentially with a combination of equity,” the firm said in a statement.
