Metro Bank, a recent entrant into the UK private banking space, has appointed Julie Barnsley as the head of its private banking operation.
Barnsley, who is currently the bank’s commercial banking director, will retain her current position as well as taking on private banking responsibilities. Prior to joining Metro Bank in 2010, Barnsley held a number of senior positions at Barclays where she was based for five years, and Bank of Scotland, where she worked for more than 17 years. Barnsley replaces Kirstie MacArthur who held the position between 2011-14.
The new appointment comes as private banking now accounts for approximately 20% of the bank’s operations. Metro Bank set up its private banking service in 2011 in response to demand from wealthy customers. Metro Bank currently offers private banking services across its 36 UK branches.
On her appointment, Barnsley said:
"Since first embarking on my banking career, it’s always been the traditional service-led aspects of good old fashioned relationship banking that has appealed to me most and that ethos sits at the very heart of Metro Bank."
Paul Riseborough, MD – customer propositions and private banking at Metro Bank, recently spoke to PBI about the bank’s "straightforward and transparent approach".
