The private bank has announced a strategic realignment to bring its two separate booking centres in North and South Asia into one regional focus. The moves will bring Bernard Rennell, current CEO of the global private bank North Asia, to become regional head of global private banking Asia Pacific with immediate effect.
Rennell will be based out of Hong Kong and will report to Peter Boyles, CEO of global private banking (GPB), and Peter Wong, chief executive, HCBC.
A HSBC spokesperson commented: "These changes are driven by the strategic importance of Asia as a priority growth region for GPB and HSBC. The region is a dynamic geography for wealth creation and HSBC is ideally placed to capture this business, in close collaboration with colleagues in all the global businesses".
Further moves from this strategic uphaul bring Rob Ioannou and Sandeep Sharma to become co-heads for GPB Southeast Asia, and will report to Rennell as well as Guy Harvey-Samuel, group general manager and CEO of HSBC Singapore.
Amit Gupta, currently CEO of GPB South Asia, has decided to take a sabbatical from HSBC for personal reasons.
