American asset manager Legg Mason has hired Regina Curry as its new chief diversity officer.
Curry most recently worked as senior director of global diversity and inclusion at McCormick & Company.
In that role, she developed global diversity and inclusion strategy and a framework to boost accountability.
The recruitment of Curry follows the commitment by the firm’s chairman and CEO Joe Sullivan last year to the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion pledge. The pledge is a CEO-driven initiative that aims to encourage diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
Legg Mason affiliate David Sheasby, who serves as the head of stewardship and ESG at Martin Currie, welcomed the hiring of Curry.
“With diversity comes diversity of experience and perspective, which not only helps avoid group-think and improve management of risk, but recent research shows that it can also contribute positively to financial returns,” Sheasby noted.
