He joined Julius Baer International as a senior investment adviser and executive director in February 2017. This followed a 14-year career in financial services.

Furthermore, Winterburn held senior positions in firms such as Coutts, HSBC Private Bank and Citi Private Bank.

In his new role, he will continue to be an investment adviser to clients but will also take on overall management of investment advisers in London.

Winterburn said: “I am delighted to accept the role and look forward to continuing to strengthen our advisory offering in the UK market. Julius Baer International’s continued dedication to top-class Investment Advisory services showcases our commitment to our HNW clients and signals our desire to materially build out this increasingly neglected area of wealth management. My team and I will continue to ensure that Julius Baer International designs and pitches tailormade investment solutions for clients based on their individual requirements.”

Ed Raymond, head of products and services at Julius Baer International, added: “We are excited to announce Mark’s appointment at a time when the firm is placing greater emphasis on its advisory solutions. Having made significant investments in our Digital Advisory Suite (DiAS), a proprietary tool developed for the firm’s client advisers, we have been able to improve the quality and efficiency of our advice in an increasingly complex environment, allowing executives to maintain personal connections with clients with greater ease.”

Jobs are becoming scarce at Julius Baer. In February 2020 alone, the bank announced 300 jobs at risk after its net profit slumped 37% to CHF465m in 2019.

In addition, it decided to close its booking centre in Nassau, taking 30 jobs with it. “Julius Baer will no longer have a presence in The Bahamas once the liquidation process has been finalised,” the company said in a statement.
