HSBC Private Banking has strengthened its Investment Services and Product Solutions (ISPS) team in Singapore with several senior appointments, all effective immediately.
The newly appointed bankers include James Cheo as chief market strategist in Southeast Asia (SEA) and Rowan Tan as head of Global Solutions Group (GSG) in SEA. Both the positions are newly-created.
Cheo will manage thought leadership on investment strategy and asset allocation for SEA private banking clients at HSBC.
He will report to head of SEA ISPS Kenneth Yeo and Asia chief market strategist Cheuk Wan Fan.
Cheo has an industry experience of over 15 years. This includes a five-year stint as the senior economist at Singapore’s central bank.
Tan will be tasked with increasing collaboration between HSBC Singapore’s private and corporate banking units.

In the new role, he will report to Yeo and head of GSG in Asia Pacific Ken Tsang.
The bank also appointed Ishan Sarkar as its head of structured products in SEA for ISPS, replacing Wendy Ang.
Sarkar has an industry experience of 12 years. At HSBC Private Banking, he will report to Yeo and head of equities and structured products in Asia Pacific Adam Lau.
Meanwhile, Ang has now moved to HSBC’s Hong Kong branch.
“The establishment of our GSG team lead strengthens our position to support our ultra-high net worth clients who are looking to take their businesses to the next level but need to access more sophisticated investment banking capabilities,” Yeo noted.
