HSBC Private Bank Investment Group has appointed Barclays’ discretionary head Oliver Gregson as its new UK wealth boss.

Gregson, who becomes head of Private Bank Investment Group, UK & Channel Islands at HSBC, will replace Dan Ellis, who left the firm for RBC Wealth Management last July.

Gregson had previous roles at UBS and Citi Private Bank in a 15-year career.

In his new capacity he will focus on implementing HSBC’s wealth strategy across the UK and Channel Islands.

His new role at HSBC will include responsibility for various teams that provide investment strategy, investment counselling, discretionary portfolio management, sales & trading, and wealth advisory services.

Gregson will be based in London, reporting to HSBC Private Bank chief executive Chris Allen and co-head of the private bank investment group, Jean-Christophe Gerard.
