HSBC Private Bank has confirmed it is investigating reports of an alleged loss of client data in Jersey as a matter of urgency.
UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported HSBC is at the centre of a major HMRC investigation after it opened offshore accounts in Jersey for alleged criminals and customers evading tax in the UK.
"We have not been notified of any investigation in relation to this matter by HMRC or any other authority but, should we receive notification, we will cooperate fully with the authorities," the bank said in a statement.
"HSBC remains fully committed to adoption of the highest global standards including the procedures for the acceptance of clients," it continued.
