US-based RIA HilltopSecurities has appointed John Muschalek as its new head of wealth management.

In the new role, Muschalek will manage the private client group, independent adviser network, securities lending, along with clearing services operations.

He reports to president and CEO Brad Winges.

Muschalek latterly held the role of chief administrative officer at HilltopSecurities, where his stint started over 27 years ago. He is also part of the firm’s executive committee.

In 1992, he joined First Southwest Company – the legacy firm of HilltopSecurities. He held multiple roles at the firm including CFO and head of correspondent clearing and securities lending.

Moreover, Muschalek is a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Uniform Practice Code Committee and Financial Responsibility Committee.

Winges stated: “John’s deep knowledge and hands-on experience with our retail, clearing, and stock loan business segments, the synergies between them, and the various products they utilise uniquely qualify him to oversee our newly combined Wealth Management division.

“With nearly three decades of proven leadership, John has been instrumental in establishing HilltopSecurities as a leader in the industry and understands our value in the marketplace.”
