German digital private equity investment platform Moonfare has raised $125m in Series C funding round led by New York-based venture capital firm Insight Partners.
The round was joined by Fidelity International Strategic Ventures, which also participated in the firm’s last financing round in March.
Moonfare has amassed $185m in capital to date.
The firm said it will leverage the proceeds from the new round to develop new investment solutions and accelerate its international expansion.
Moonfare, which currently operates across 13 countries in Europe and Asia, is also looking to bolster its global team. It plans to hire more than 80 full-time employees in the tech and product departments alone.
Commenting on the funding round, Moonfare founder and CEO Steffen Pauls said: “We are excited for this round of funding and the opportunity to leverage the capabilities and network of our new partners at Insight Partners.

By GlobalData“We will transform the business into a global champion for individual investors in the years to come.”
Moonfare help qualified individual investors access select private market funds and capital funds via its platform. These funds were previously only available to institutional investors.
Its platform can be customised to various customer preferences and regulatory requirements.
Additionally, Moonfare’s digital secondary market enables investors to sell their stakes, enabling liquidity in what is said to be a traditionally illiquid asset class.
The firm’s assets under management (AuM) surpassed €1bn in September this year.
Insight Partners managing director Matt Gatto said: “In an impressively short time, Moonfare has established itself as the international leader in an extremely large and expanding market.
“They have curated a selection of the world’s top private equity and venture capital funds and enabled access for individual investors through a digital platform that provides a seamless user experience and is built for scale.”
Last June, German private bank Berenberg tapped Moonfare to offer its clients access to private equity funds.
