Moonfare, a digital platform for private equity investing, has expanded into Australia, providing local investors access to private equity funds.

Since its inception in 2016, Moonfare is said to be a key participant in private equity investments across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific.

The Australia launch is set to provide eligible investors with low minimum access to a selection of carefully curated funds from managers such as KKR, EQT, and the Carlyle Group.

With high-net-worth assets under management exceeding $1tn, Australia ranks fifth globally in average wealth, according to the company.

Moonfare’s ‘proprietary’ portfolio investments offer instant diversification with low minimums across various strategies, including buyout, growth equity, venture, and infrastructure.

The platform also provides options for investments in secondaries, private credit, and co-investments. Family offices and larger-scale investors can invest directly in select companies alongside leading general partners.

Moonfare founder and co-CEO Steffen Pauls said: “There is clearly a growing appetite for private equity investing in Australia. But so far access has been limited, especially for people wanting exposure to non-domestic managers and strategies.

“Moonfare’s digital private equity platform plans to fill that gap by providing seamless access to globally leading top-quartile managers.”

Investors on Moonfare’s platform benefit from a secondary market feature, which includes a biannual auction facilitated by institutional participant Lexington Partners. This allows investors to sell their stakes or acquire new ones in Moonfare’s funds.

With over €3.3bn ($3.4bn) in assets under management and nearly 5,000 investors, Moonfare has built a community of over 71,000 family offices, industrial families, and private investors.

The platform’s availability now spans 23 countries with the inclusion of Australia.

Moonfare Asia Pacific head Adam Banks said: “Our APAC investor relations team is in active discussions with potential clients in Australia.

“We look forward to bringing the Moonfare experience to many more eligible investors as we expand our presence in the region.”

In 2024, Moonfare launched its direct investment programme, allowing eligible investors to co-invest in select companies with top GPs.
