British banking group HSBC has unveiled plans to create new 500 jobs in Scotland, which is its third expansion in the region in three years.
The jobs will be created in the bank’s global risk business set up in Edinburgh in 2015 as well as in its contact centre in Hamilton.
The latest move increases the bank’s total headcount in Scotland to 4,500.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon termed the move as “fantastic news for the economy”.
“This is testament to our skills and expertise and builds on HSBC’s significant business presence here. Scotland is open for business and this announcement further demonstrates our position as a prime location for investment and growth,” Sturgeon said.
HSBC CEO in Scotland Alison McGregor added: “This expansion programme spans different locations, skills and disciplines, supporting lots of communities in different ways.”
