Citigroup has appointed Carmen Haddad as the new chief executive officer for Qatar as it eyes expansion in the region.

In his new role, Haddad will oversee Citigroup’s Private Bank Gulf and Egypt business, reported Bloomberg.

Haddad said that Citigroup is seeking to further invest in Qatar to serve its government, financial institution, and corporate clients.

Haddad, who has worked at Citigroup for 14 years, previously focused on private banking, corporate finance, direct investments, capital markets, and equity structured solutions.

Prior to joining Citigroup, Haddad has held senior roles in the wealth management and asset management units of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), Lehman Brothers, and Merrill Lynch, covering institutional and private banking clients in the Middle East and Europe.
