Barclays has expanded the remit of Gérald Mathieu and appointed him as the new head of private bank for Europe, Monaco and Switzerland.
Mathieu assumes the new role immediately, replacing Jean-Christophe Gerard.
Last month, Barclays Private Bank named Gerard as the new CEO.
Mathieu stated: “The pandemic has accelerated clients’ needs and expectations, highlighting the importance of being partnered with a quality private bank able to provide tailored solutions and specialised services across international booking platforms.”
Background
Gérald has been working at Barclays since 2010.
Earlier, he headed Barclays Private Bank in Monaco.
He has been serving as the CEO of Barclays Bank (Suisse), a role he will retain in addition to his responsibility.
He also worked as the head of Private Banking at UBS for the Paris region.
Besides, he previously had stints at Merrill Lynch as well as BNP Paribas.
Barclays Private Bank CEO Jean-Christophe Gerard said: “Gérald has deep and credible experience in the industry, underpinned by a strong affinity to our European and international client base, making him well placed to lead Barclays Private Bank in Europe.
“I look forward to working with Gérald as we drive the Private Bank forward in its next phase of growth in Europe.”
