Romania-based Banca Transilvania Financial Group has agreed to acquire the investment banking operations of consulting company Capital Partners through its brokerage arm, BT Securities.

The acquisition will mark Banca Transilvania’s entry into the investment banking market and will help it expand its portfolio.

Following the deal, BT Securities will take over the Capital Partners brand and team and BT Securities will become BT Capital Partners.

The new entity, BT Capital Partners, will advise and help companies in listing on the capital market and in attracting new investors.

It will also offer brokerage services, consultancy for mergers and acquisitions, financing and structuring of complex financing schemes, market research, and consultancy for strategic management.

The deal is expected to close by the end of March 2016. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded by Doru Lionachescu and other local partners 10 years ago, Capital Partners has advised on transactions amounting to more than EUR2bn.

Banca Transilvania chairman of board of directors Horia Ciorcila said: "The entering of the investment banking market is a milestone for Banca Transilvania Financial Group, as it consolidates our range of products and services provided to large corporate clients.
