August 2021 has seen a decrease of 4.66% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 14.51% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2021, registering a decrease of 0.17% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in August 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 56.22% in August 2021, a 4.64% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 18.41% in August 2021, marking a 10.84% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 12.94% in August 2021, an 11.86% drop from July 2021.

Top five banking and payments companies in Middle East & Africa’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 1.93% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s banking and payments industry during August 2021 over previous month.
Sanlam posted 89 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered an increase of 39.06% over the previous month, followed by FirstRand with 49 jobs and a 31.94% drop. Discovery with 47 IT jobs and Standard Bank Group with 37 jobs, recorded a 26.56% drop and a 2.78% rise, respectively, while Absa Group recorded a 39.13% increase with 32 job postings during August 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s banking and payments industry
South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s banking and payments industry IT hiring activity with a 74.13% share in August 2021, a 13.87% decrease over July 2021. Israel featured next with an 11.94% share, down 7.69% over the previous month. United Arab Emirates recorded a 2.74% share, a drop of 26.67% compared with July 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 68.41%, down by 4.18% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 26.12% share, registered a decline of 16.67% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 5.22% share, down 34.38% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.25%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
