Europe witnessed a 3.5% rise in IT hiring activity in the banking and payments industry in May 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.
May 2021 has seen an increase of 6.66% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 15.74% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2021, registering decrease of 0.36% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 57.03% in May 2021, a 9.88% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 16.65% in May 2021, marking a 10.84% month-on-month an increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 14.03% in May 2021, a 1.67% drop from April 2021.

Top five banking and payments companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in May 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 4.55% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s banking and payments industry during May 2021 over previous month.
KBC Group posted 729 IT jobs in May 2021 and registered a an increase of 11.13% over the previous month, followed by Banco Santander with 333 jobs and a 20.71% drop. SIX Group with 268 IT jobs and ING Group with 153 jobs, recorded a 10.96% decline and a 9.47% drop, respectively, while JPMorgan Chase recorded an 8.98% decline with 152 job postings during May 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s banking and payments industry
The UK commanded a leading presence in the region’s banking and payments industry IT hiring activity with a 21.69% share in May 2021, a 7.5% decline over April 2021. Poland featured next with a 12.59% share, down 29.95% over the previous month. Czech Republic recorded a 10.9% share, a drop of 1.18% compared with April 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 78.07%, down by 5.37% from April 2021. Mid Level positions with a 12.07% share, a decline of 7.79% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 8.97% share, up 20.41% over April 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.89%, recording a month-on-month decline of 28.07%.
