There were 35,725 jobs posted in the period 7 February 2021 to 13 February 2021 according to the GlobalData jobs analytics tool. This represents a 46.47% increase from the previous weeks total of 24,391. Building on last weeks 31.5% increase, job postings have grown by 92.7% in the first fortnight of February.

Despite speculation that JP Morgan would top the tables for eternity, the global investment bank has finally fallen to third place in the job rankings this week, behind Banco Nacional de Mexico (Banamex) and Citigroup; the former a subsidiary of the latter.

Last week, Banamex posted an impressive 7093 jobs, followed by Citi Group with 2344 and JP Morgan with 1796. Wells Fargo made another appearance in the top four with 662 roles posted.

Of Banamex’s 7093 postings, the majority were for mid-level roles at 2653 postings, followed by 2508 junior roles and 722 at entry-level. Across the broader CitiGroup, 869 roles were posted at junior level, followed by 773 at mid-level, 419 at senior level and 283 at entry level.

Amidst the week’s hiring and firing, JP Morgan hit the headlines when it was revealed on 10 February 2021 that Chuka Umunna had been hired for a senior sustainability role.

The appointment of the former high-profile Labour politician was announced to staff via a memo on Wednesday morning. Umunna is expected to lead the bank’s European environmental, social and governance work.

Umunna will be responsible for providing advice to JP Morgan’s corporate clients on improving sustainability across takeover deals, fundraising and investments.

The former head of ESG consultancy at PR firm Edelman, Umunna will retire from a string of non-executive director roles at companies, such as Vista Equity Partners, to assume the position. The move renders Umunna as one of Britain’s most senior black bankers.

Overall, the highest number of jobs posted were in North America with 17,998 posting. Asia-Pacific was second with 8260, followed by Europe with 8056, Middle East and Africa with 726 and South & Central America with 685.

Globally, most jobs were junior level with 14,953 postings. This was followed by 10,559 mid-level jobs, 7296 at entry level and 2917 senior positions.
