There were 30,719 jobs posted in the period 21 February 2021 to 27 February 2021 according to the GlobalData jobs analytics tool. This represents a 25.9% increase from the previous weeks total of 24,395.

Across 2021, the number of jobs posted across the banking sector is clearly trending upwards. Following the roll-out of vaccination programmes worldwide, and as we begin to leave the pandemic behind, this trend can be expected to continue.

Banamex recorded the highest number of jobs posted this week with 1771 positions, followed by Citi Group with 1755. JP Morgan slipped once more in the rankings, to third place with 1639 jobs posted. In fourth place, with 970 positions was Wells Fargo & Co.

This week, Citi Group hit the headlines following the appointment of Jane Fraser as new CEO, joining a meagre number of 37 women heading up Fortune 500 companies. Fraser represents the first female to ever lead a major US bank.

Embracing a number of major challenges, such as the groups struggling stock price, Fraser also promised that the bank would eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Frasers appointment plays into the “Glass Cliff” theory, coined by Professor M. Ryan in 2004, which argues that women are more likely to be elected into leadership roles or positions of power during times of crisis or downturn, when the chance of failure is greatest.

Theme of the week was User Experience, with 7591 positions falling under that heading. This was followed by 4974 positions within Big Data, 2380 in Cloud Services, and 1976 in Fintech. The digital age is truly upon us.

Overall, the highest number of jobs posted were in North America with 11,933. Asia Pacific was second with 6973, followed by Europe with 5792, South & Central America with 590 and the Middle East & Africa with 560.

Globally, most jobs were junior level with 12,551 postings. This was followed by 9827 mid-level positions, 6463 at entry level and 1878 senior positions.
