Canada banking and payments industry registered a 5.8% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 2% in July 2021 compared with June 2021.
Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 13.26% share in July 2021, recording an increase of 1.01% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.82% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada banking and payments industry in July 2021.

Top five banking and payments companies in Canada IT recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 2.18% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada banking and payments industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
Royal Bank of Canada posted 301 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 0.33% over the previous month, followed by The Bank of Nova Scotia with 299 jobs and a 9.94% drop. Bank of Montreal with 107 IT jobs and The Travelers Companies with 74 jobs, recorded a flat growth and an 111.43% increase, respectively, while Desjardins Group recorded a 25% decline with 72 job postings during July 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.58%, down by 7.28% from June 2021. Mid Level positions with a 32.4% share, a decline of 2.62% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 7.52% share, down 35.64% over June 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 1.49%, recording a month-on-month decline of 22.58%.
