Eastspring Investments, the $254bn Asian investment management arm of Prudential, has appointed Bill Maldonado as its new head of equities.

Maldonado will assume his role on 6 September 2021, subject to regulatory approval.

The company said that appointment is a strategic investment aimed at expanding its leadership capabilities.

Bill will be based in Singapore and will focus on managing and further diversifying Eastspring’s equity strategies. He will report to Eastspring portfolio strategies head Boon Ooi.

Bill has around 30 years of experience in global asset management market. He was most recently Asia Pacific chief investment officer and global chief investment officer at HSBC Global Asset Management Equities.

In 2019, Eastspring agreed to purchase a 50.1% stake in Thanachart Fund Management, a Thailand-based mutual fund manager, in a deal valued at £108m.
