The industry’s overall hiring an increased by 18.05% in May 2021 compared with April 2021.
Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 14.56% share in May 2021, recording decrease of 0.62% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 96.65% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of South Africa banking and payments industry in May 2021.

Top five banking and payments companies in South Africa IT recruitment activity in May 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 9.64% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of South Africa banking and payments industry during May 2021 over April 2021.
Sanlam posted 100 IT jobs in May 2021 and registered a drop of 10.71% over the previous month, followed by FirstRand with 51 jobs and a 24.39% growth. Standard Bank Group with 45 IT jobs and Discovery with 39 jobs, recorded a 50% growth and an 8.33% increase, respectively, while Nedbank Group recorded a 26.67% an increase with 38 job postings during May 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 70.67%, up by 0.4% from April 2021. Mid Level positions with a 23.74% share, a growth of 157.58% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 5.59% share, flat growth over April 2021.
