UBS has appointed Alison Lander as its new director in the Swiss private bank’s Newcastle office, growing its team in North East England.

Lander joins UBS after 20 years at Coutts, where she has served as executive director team leader in Newcastle since 2015, and will focus on growing UBS’s business in the North East. According to a statement from UBS, her appointment is a sign of the bank’s continued growth in the region, following the hire of client advisor Oli York from Brewin Dolphin in 2018.

The appointment comes at a time when private banks are increasingly expanding their offering to the north of England, where the growing entrepreneurial presence is being boosted thanks to increased investment brought by the government’s Northern Powerhouse strategy.

UBS’ regional footprint in the North East

North East regional head, Aidan Dunston, said, “We are always on the lookout for the best talent to match our clients’ ambition and help them to achieve their life goals. Alison is one of the most highly respected wealth management professionals in the North East. Her depth of knowledge of the region and experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow our offer.”

Alison Lander herself commented: “UBS has an unrivaled regional footprint and I am looking forward to working with the team in Newcastle to build on their success. Despite concerns about Brexit, businesses and high-net-worth individuals in the North East are going from strength to strength, and I’m excited to support them throughout 2019 and beyond.”

UBS is one of the world’s leading wealth management firms with $2,403bn assets under management in 2018, according to GlobalData.
