State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has appointed Tae Jong Um as the head of its South Korea business, a newly created position.
Based in Seoul, Jong Um will head the SSGA’s business strategy and future development in South Korea. He will report to the firm’s head of Asia ex Japan, June Wong.
“Dr. Um brings immense value to our business given his very strong investment and technical background, as well as his experience in strategic business management,” Wong noted.
Jong Um, who has an experience of over 25 years in the asset management industry, most recently served as the managing director and head of South Korea at MSCI Korea.
Previously, he also worked as the CIO for global investment at Samsung Asset Management, head of the international investment unit at Samsung Fire and Marine, and head of investment at Continuum Management in New York.
“Korea is an important market for SSGA in Asia, and we are committed to strengthening our team on the ground and delivering best-in-class service and solutions to our Korean clients. Dr. Um’s leadership will be invaluable in the next phase of our business expansion,” Wong added.
