In his new role, Zemmel will lead a team of operating executives who provide expertise and support across various functional areas, including talent, data science, AI transformation, and cybersecurity.
Zemmel and his team will work closely with CEOs of Blackstone’s portfolio companies to drive value creation and operational improvements, contributing to the firm’s broader investment strategy.
Blackstone’s portfolio includes 250 companies with a combined annual revenue of $226bn, employing approximately 700,000 people worldwide.
Blackstone private equity strategies global head Joe Baratta said: “We are pleased to welcome Rodney, who brings a wealth of experience across sectors and has proven to be a highly respected partner to CEOs in helping drive value in their businesses.”
Before joining Blackstone, Zemmel spent nearly three decades at McKinsey, where he led key digital transformation initiatives and played a central role in the firm’s global AI strategy.
Zemmel said: “I look forward to joining Blackstone and closely partnering with its impressive team and portfolio of companies.
“The firm’s scale offers immense opportunities to drive continued growth and innovation at the businesses in which they invest.”
In December 2024, Blackstone revamped its leadership to enhance client services and capital raising. Farhad Karim is named global COO of Private Wealth Solutions, Chris Sullivan leads sponsor coverage, and Adam Lane heads consultant relations.
